HAIRSTYLIST | CURY HAIR SPECIALIST

ABOUT ADRIENNE

THE BEGINNING — The creative process was something that Adrienne Hagan was born into, and the art surrounding her daily life ultimately led her to find her own creative niche as a stylist. Her mother was a working artist, and from a very early age - it became clear that her natural inclination, what really made her happy, was being engaged in any activity that was artistic in nature. In addition to the time spent in her mother’s drawing and painting classes, she quickly became the go-to person for hair styling with her friends. Her natural talent evolved into a full-time career as a stylist when, after graduating from High School, Adrienne enrolled in a college of cosmetology in the San Francisco Bay Area and thrived. It just felt right — she had found her niche!

WORK HISTORY — After completing her initial training in San Francisco, Adrienne continued to train and worked in major NATIONAL MARKETS, not only as a STYLIST, but also as an EDUCATOR. Always eager to learn and keep abreast of the current trends she received advanced training with Vidal Sassoon in LOS ANGELES, and eager to expand her hands-on experience, Adrienne moved to NEW YORK CITY where she apprenticed under some of the top stylists of the day. She trained in advanced haircutting with Nick Arrojo of (then) Bumble and Bumble and moved on to the Minardi Salon where she trained under Beth (hair color guru) and Carmine Minardi. After New York, Adrienne’s career led her back to SAN FRANCISCO where she worked at an Aveda Concept Salon, followed by three years at an Aveda Concept Salon in DAYTON, Ohio. She subsequently returned to California where she worked at an Aveda salon in TEMPLETON, and in 2010 she moved to CANADA for two years and finally to AUSTIN, Texas where she worked in salons specializing in natural products and fine-tuned her craft in natural, non-toxic, environmentally friendly hair care.

THE EPIPHANY — Though her training and experience span the full spectrum of hairstyles, Adrienne has become a specialist in curly hair, and her career was forever changed when, at a trade show, she met Lorraine Massey, founder of DevaCurl, and the author of “Curly Girl: The Handbook.” Over the years, while focusing principally on the use of natural, non-toxic products, she developed a growing passion for working with curly hair. After meeting Ms. Massey, Adrienne was struck by the revelation that curly hair methodology is not only not taught at beauty school, but that most stylists do not know what to do with curly hair — how differently it needs to be treated. She immersed herself in the DevaCurl approach, immediately spending the next three days after meeting Ms. Massey in the Deva Curl classroom at the show, followed by subsequent training at the DevaCurl Academy in New York City. As a result, Adrienne gained a faithful following of curly hair clients and became known as a CURLY HAIR SPECIALIST. This specialization extended to her teaching curly hair skills, with DevaCurl, at local trade shows and in advanced training classrooms. In addition, she became a member of “Curly Hair Artistry”, an international group of hairstylists who collaborate daily on a private Facebook page and come together multiple times a year for advanced training. Curly hair had arrived and was finally on the map!

PHILOSOPHY AS A STYLIST — For years Adrienne made a conscious effort to bring into her own life natural, earth-friendly, non-toxic products. Over the course of her career (1989 to the present), she has developed and maintained a philosophy of natural hair care, ensuring her clients benefit from gentle, natural, non-toxic, environmentally friendly products. Adrienne’s approach is honest and gentle. She works with and highlights what is naturally there — who you really are. She factors into her approach the lifestyle of her client, the shape of their head, face, and body, and the natural growth pattern of their hair and makes all of that work for them!

SPECIALTY — Adrienne continues to work with all hair textures, ensuring top-quality styling using natural, non-toxic products. However, working with curly and wavy hair is her passion and, as such, it has become her area of specialization. She works with the hair’s natural texture to achieve a style that looks good with minimal fuss. “It is so rewarding to teach someone who thought they had frizzy hair that they have beautiful curls and waves — that they can be gorgeous without the struggle!”

TRAINING — Adrienne’s training has been extensive, and includes study with DevaCurl, Curly Hair Artistry (CHA), Vidal Sassoon, The Aveda Institute, and Bumble and Bumble among others.
